He band, known for it's unique blues-infused sound and Morrison's poetic, often controversial lyrics and unpredictable stage presence, became a major force in 1960s counterculture and psychedelic rock. Their influential career ended with Morrison's death in 1971, after which the remaining members disbanded in 1973.
